Aquarius Style

Known as "The Water Bearer" and ruler of the 11th house of the zodiac, the native Aquarius is typically described as progressive, eccentric, forward-looking, quirky and unique. Although the 11th sign represents the Zodiac's house of collective consciousness, humanitarianism, groups and organizations, the typical Aquarius tends to be very individualistic. As an Air sign (Air represents intelligence, communication and the mind), their "individualistic" flare stems from a consciousness that is ahead of their time. Most Aquarians tend to have very futuristic views on how we all should function as a collective. At times, an Aquarius can be a bit overwhelming, especially for people that are very traditional. Yet, they always seem to get even the most stale traditionalist thinking. As the world changes and old outdated systems and traditions come to an end, you'll usually find an Aquarius or an Aquarius rising leading the charge for change.

You'll certainly see an Aquarian's progressive tendencies in the style of their home. I am an Aquarius rising, so I know this to be especially true. Throughout the home you'll see very contemporary styling juxtaposed with traditional elements. Aquarians tend to love the contrast. It is a constant reminder of our transition into the future. You'll also find lots of technical gadgets, most having to do with communication. Here are a few examples of Aquarian décor:

Capricorn Style

Capricorns are generally known as solid, reliable, dependable and respectable. Anyone with a Capricorn friend knows that they have found someone they can count on. Ruled by Saturn, the planet of responsibility, structure and permanence, Capricorns represent the glue that holds everything together. This may not sound as crazy, sexy or cool as other sassy signs, like Scorpio or Leo, whose energy is more outwardly oriented, but there is an inherent sense of foundation that Capricorns enjoy. Caps like to hide their "cookies", so to speak. If you want some serious love heat, find your way into the heart of a Capricorn! It's hard to get there, but once you do get there, you'll find a cornucopia of sexy love all with the backdrop of stability.

Capricorn is an earth sign and this is certainly reflected in their style. At home, a Cap wants things traditional and highly structured, yet they like a sense warmth and structure as well. Here are a few great examples of the Capricorn style at home.

Sagittarius Style

Right now, the sun is deep in the festive and free-wheeling sign of Sagittarius. This time of year is typically filled with optimism and holiday fun. Ruled by the expansive and lucky planet Jupiter, Sagittarians tend to crave wide open spaces, new adventures and learning new things. The native Sagittarius typically has a deep connection with the great outdoors. In fact, the true Sagittarius can sometimes find it difficult to be indoors for too long!

When it comes to the home, Sagittarians love to bring the outdoors inside. I would call their style "Modern Rustic". Here are some examples that I believe capture the home style of Sagittarius.

Scorpio Style

Scorpios are the most passionate and intense sign of the zodiac. Ruled by Pluto, the planet of life, death, sex, secrets, intense passion and obsession, Scorpios are powerfully intuitive and possess an innate understanding of human nature. They tend to be very private and are highly astute, often noticing details and behaviors that others may miss. They are very loyal lovers and friends, where their intensity can be, at times, overwhelming.

They make fantastic allies, and very scary enemies! Try not to cross a Scorpio. You definitely want them on your side. If you have a plutonian nature (as I do, hehe...) you often find a hidden, almost subconscious, need to create trouble and take pleasure in provoking the darker side of people, especially native Scorpios (they totally implode!). To better understand this energy, note the element Plutonium. It is the world's most "transformative" and destructive element and is MAN-MADE, created in our egotistical effort to gain "Pluto-like" ends, i.e. control, power, creation and destruction (transformation). Yes, physicists would agree that its fun to play with, but the results can be catastrophic (literally! Note Hiroshima...).

When it comes to the home, the Scorpio likes to express their intensity in hidden and creative ways. They often use color, texture and even smell to create a seductive atmosphere and are VERY protective of their private home environment. Scorpio is at home in their bedroom, so the examples below are all of great Scorpio "lairs".

Finding Design Inspiration

I recently helped a friend/client put the finishing touches on designing her living room space. She called me up and asked me to join her on a furniture and accessory shopping adventure. We spent about an hour just mulling over items and fantasizing about different designs and furniture set ups. And then we saw it... The cutest little lamp in the right color. Not only was the lamp a great example of the beach style she liked, but the color was just perfect! From there, our design adventure began...

This simple little lamp was our inspiration. From there, we picked the wall paint color and curtains to complete the look of her living room.

After a coat of paint and light and breezy drapes, we've got a calm, soothing and beautiful living room!

My friend still has more work to do and accessories to buy, but now she has the basic foundation of her decor in place. This will serve as an excellent starting place to finish her entire apartment!
